The rainy season has brought along not only the usual Highveld thunderstorms, but flash floods. This week it hit the northern area of Pretoria, with the southern side (Centurion) not being hit. Cars getting stuck in the water did not lead to serious injury this time round as all occupants managed to get out unscathed. Metro emergency services urged motorists to be very cautious and rather turn around and find alternative routes to avoid getting into trouble. Weather warnings indicate more possible flooding around Pretoria.

Moot residents decided to beautify and upgrade their surroundings, as well as cleaning it. Die Moot Projek aims to transform the area into something that everyone can be proud of. At the end of 2022 they finished a beautiful bridge painting, made in the style of Pierneef, seeing as Pierneef Ave in Moot is a well-known street. The artists turned the bridge into an eye-catching landmark, from being an eyesore. And they are not finished yet, this year promises more work and an even better Moot for all.


Well-known media personality Rian van Heerden shares his plans for 2023 with Rekord, saying he intends to work even harder this year.Many of his current television projects are making waves and rocking the boat – all in Afrikaans. Not one to shirk from criticism, he stands on the edge where he is not afraid to take risks and push the boundaries. He loves his mother tongue. That is why he continues to work in Afrikaans.

Pretoria residents were asked to report the sale of illegal fireworks should they become aware of it.Fireworks must adhere to regulations set out for private discharge. These regulations include how far the discharge are is from the nearest buildings, and making sure people are more than 50m away when lighting them.


SACOPA (South African Championships of Performing Arts) president Ellen Roux is celebrating 25 years of developing young artists for stage careers.This member of the Performing Arts Hall of Fame in Los Angeles, has worked tirelessly with young South Africans, notably many Pretoria contestants, in participating in a variety of talent contests on the international stage.

Final Matric results is expected on 19 January with schools and exams centres able to distribute certificates on 20 January.Matriculants can apply for re-marking until 3 Feb and can apply for rewriting the exams either in June or November. On Wednesday next week schools will be opening for all learners from grade R to matric for the first school term of the educational year.
