The Toyota Land Cruiser is a solid piece of Japanese off-road machinery that has found itself in some of the world's toughest terrain.
From exploring the Arctic to navigating the minefields of Africa, the Land Cruiser has seen it all.
It's no wonder why Canadian vehicle armor specialist Inkas likes to weigh in on those cars.
In a video the company shared, we see a new Land Cruiser, outfitted with Inkas armor, getting hit by a hail of bullets, some grenades, and even the use of TNT as part of a strict European VPAM certification programme.
Inkas is no stranger to the world of luxury armored cars, and puts all of its vehicles, including the Mercedes S-Class and Bentley Bentayga, through various rigorous testing processes.
The test shown in the video requires the Land Cruiser to withstand more than 700 laser-guided rounds of small arms and specific rifles, multiple grenade blasts, and a 33-pound blast of TNT.
These extreme tests are performed in order to simulate real world conditions in hostile environments.
To withstand this kind of torture, Inkas starts with a standard Land Cruiser with a different number of engines (a 3.5-liter V6 petrol with 400 hp, a 4.0-liter V8 with 271 hp, and a 3.3-liter V6 diesel with 302 hp).
The company then installs engine compartment shielding, battery and electronic control unit protection, reinforced suspension, passenger compartment perimeter protection, reinforced door hinges, and flat tire operation.
This gives all Inkas Land Cruisers a CEN 1063 BR level 7 armor rating that can withstand 7.62mm assault rifle blasts, and up to two DM51 grenade blasts.
In the video, we clearly see that the Land Cruiser is taking a beating, but it manages to preserve the structural integrity of the passenger compartment.
For those looking for a safer ride, Inkas offers optional extras like a heavy-duty braking system, fire suppression, heavy-duty wheels, emergency lighting, and even a PA/Intercom system.
If this video is to be believed, this Toyota Land Cruiser tuned by Inkas should last a lifetime.
