Trump leaves New York Attorney General's office after telling Letitia James 'same answer' for SEVEN HOURS while pleading the fifth: Ex-President says meeting was 'very professional' and insists his company has 'lots of CASH
Former President Trump was seen leaving New York Attorney General Letitia James' office seven hours after he entered for a deposition in her civil suit against the Trump Organization.
Despite the lengthy meeting, Trump's testimony did not fruitful for New York investigators - the former president vowed to plead the Fifth, the right to remain silent, before it began.
Trump attorney Ronald Fischetti, who was present in the meeting, told the New York Times that Trump answered exactly one question throughout the duration of the meeting - what his name was.
Trump read a statement 'the greatest witch hunt in the history of our country' and said as James sat across from him that she 'openly campaigned on a policy of destroying me.'
Trump pleaded the Fifth, and then from about 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with breaks in between, the former president repeated 'same answer' to all of her questions.
A spokesperson with James' office confirmed they could not get the former president to talk.
'While we will not comment on specific details, we can confirm that today, our office conducted a deposition of former president Donald Trump. Attorney General Letitia James took part in the deposition during which Mr. Trump invoked his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. Attorney General James will pursue the facts and the law wherever they may lead. Our investigation continues.'
Upon leaving, Trump's motorcade was spotted taking the Lincoln Tunnel, indicating he may have returned to his Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey rather than his Manhattan residence.
James' office had not been given a heads up that Trump would not be responding to their questions, mostly because it took a lot of wrangling to convince him not to talk, Fischetti said.
