A man who carried out a double murder in Clarendon as a teenager was on Wednesday afternoon given two life sentences.

Michael Black, who is now 18 years old, is to serve 20 years and three months before he is eligible for parole.

According to documents read in the Home Circuit Court, Black was unable to say why he shot two men who were travelling on a motorcycle near the intersection of Race Course Road and Hayes Field Road on November 18, 2020.

Black, who pleaded guilty in February, was also sentenced to 18 years and seven months at hard labour for two counts of illegal possession of a firearm and 33 years and nine months at hard labour for three counts of robbery with aggravation.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

These offences arose from a $1.7 million robbery at the Lasco Money Gram outlet in Chapelton, Clarendon last March.

However, Black was freed of other charges of illegal possession of a firearm, robbery with aggravation, conspiracy to robbery and illegal possession of ammunition.

Justice Ann Marie Lawrence-Grainger accepted an application by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to discontinue that case.
