SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt (Reuters) - US special envoy for climate John Kerry tested positive for COVID-19 during the COP27 climate summit in Egypt,
but continues to work by phone, the US State Department said on Friday. Department spokesman Whitney Smith said in an emailed statement that Kerry "has been fully vaccinated, his symptoms are enhanced and he is showing mild symptoms. He is working with his negotiating team and foreign counterparts by phone to ensure a successful outcome of COP27." Kerry is leading the US effort to reach an agreement at the two-week summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, holding multiple meetings at the conference, including a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, on Thursday. It was noted that Kerry's voice was rough during the meetings in which he spoke on Thursday.
