For its 65th edition, the IAAS Morocco, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fishing, Rural Development and Water and Forests, is organizing from July 24 to August 7, the World Congress of Agricultural Students at the Hassan II Agronomic and Veterinary Institute on the theme of "water scarcity and its effects on food security".
This year, the congress will be held in Morocco and will be organized by the International Association of Students in Agriculture and Related Sciences. This event will be an opportunity to discuss the phenomenon of drought and the theme "water scarcity and its effects on food security".
This event will also raise awareness on the extreme urgency of paying full attention to the treatment of the problem of water in order to prevent the effects of its scarcity, especially on the current food security, but also that which may mortgage the future of future generations. During this congress, speakers from all over the world will give lectures and workshops on the theme of "water scarcity and its effects on food security".
According to official figures from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, water scarcity currently affects nearly 700 million people across 43 countries. In the very short term, by 2025, nearly 1.8 billion people could be living in countries or regions affected by a complete water shortage and two-thirds of the world's population could be living in alarming conditions of water stress.
Moreover, according to the figures put forward at the conference on "the right to water" in Rabat, the situation seems to be particularly alarming in Morocco. Indeed, Morocco is experiencing its worst drought in 40 years.
