I have been developing software for the web and desktop for around 20 years. The bulk of my career has been web-focussed and thus I am very experienced developing for the entire web stack, from front-end visual and interaction design and programming right through to back end API and database design and development. I have architected high performance systems involving thousands of database operations per second and high volumes of concurrently-connected users. While I am most skilled with the Microsoft stack; primarily C# and .Net, and with modern browser-based technologies, including CSS and JavaScript, responsive design and progressive enhancement techniques, I am also highly competent with various other platforms and languages such as node.js and C++. I have a strong sense of design and visual quality. I obsess over element positioning, font and colour selection, and in particular, the user experience of any interface I am developing. It's not enough for the interface to be "pretty". It must be clear and intuitive, and do as much as possible to guide the user quickly to their desired result. When I develop software-based solutions, I don't just dive in and start coding. I take the time to understand the problem domain and to plan the systems I will be developing to ensure that they work efficiently and reliably and that the work is done on time and on budget.
