I have been working with HTML and CSS since 2000, at first, I was self taught, then I took HTML/CSS classes, and now I would say I am an basically an HTML/CSS expert.
I learned PHP and MySQL, self taught as well from online resources, I am now a fair expert in PHP and MySQL.
I have been a self taught web programmer, for 4+ years, then went to school to start a degree in web programming. During the school year, I was able to complete 1 semesters worth of an "Advanced XHTML" classes work (3 months) in less than a week, while still achieving a perfect grade in the class. I have not yet taken my PHP and SQL classes yet, but I do visit web forums, and help others with their PHP and MySQL questions.
