Fulham ‘are keen’ to bring in a player to bolster their options at right-back in the dying hours of the winter transfer window, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The Cottagers are enjoying an incredible season under the tutelage of manager Marco Silva and could look to make a last-minute addition to his first-team squad ahead of tonight’s deadline.
Fulham transfer news – Right-back
David Ornstein of The Athletic has claimed that Fulham are set to finalise a deal for Cedric Soares on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season following protracted negotiations.
However, Fulham can only sign the 31-year-old if they first manage to turn on of their existing loans into a permanent signing in order to comply with Premier League rules.
Ornstein states that that player is likely to be Shane Duffy, who joined from Brighton & Hove Albion on a temporary basis in the summer, rather than winger Dan James.
Premier League clubs are not allowed to have more than two players on loan from other top-flight clubs, and given James is owned by Leeds United, Fulham have been forced to make a decision.
Soares will provide cover and competition for Kenny Tete after struggling for game time at league leaders Arsenal in the first half of the campaign.
What has Jones said about Fulham?
Fulham have been one of the surprise packages of the season to date and are in contention to finish within the European places at this moment in time.
And Jones has told GMS that he would not be surprised if the west London outfit still manages to bring in another full-back this winter.
He said: “The right-back position is still being addressed, they are keen to bring in a body if possible, and it would not surprise me if they manage a breakthrough on that front.”
Who have Fulham signed in January?
Fulham have confirmed the signing of midfielder Sasa Lukic from Torino for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million.
The Serbian international has put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year contract and has the options to extend his stay with the club for a further year.
After signing his new deal, the 26-year-old said: “I’m very happy to have signed and to now be a part of Fulham’s squad.
“I can’t wait to get started and meet with the head coach, the players, and the staff, and I’m looking forward to training with them when I arrive in England.”
