I have a degree in English/Rhetoric, and have experience writing and editing copy for web pages, marketing materials, and blog posts. I also have written many technical how-to documents for users ranging from inexperienced to tech-savvy, and have always received high praise for the usefulness of these documents. I even had a boss who would have me edit his emails before he sent them out to the rest of the department!
