About

Versatile writer with broad experience in nonfiction TV (news, 11 years with E!) web, author, ghostwriter, book editor, corporate video and much more.

I feel lucky to be pursuing a career that happens to be one of my favorite things in the world: writing.

In broadcasting, my experience includes seven years writing local TV (and some radio) news in LA. I spent 11-plus years as a producer-writer (and frequent interviewer) with E! Entertainment. In the case of E!, I worked or dealt with A-list celebrities on a regular basis, usually when I was producing celebrity profile programs.

Other TV stops have included DirecTV and TV Guide Network, and my work has also appeared on Travel Channel and Food Network, among others.

In the last few years, I've ghostwritten several memoirs. I'm also a book editor. In fact, I rewrote a first-time author's (thoroughly awful) manuscript from page 1. The result: a quick sale to an Virginia imprint and a spot on the New York Times bestseller list. (I've just now finished rewriting her second book. She can't make a move without me.)

For about four years, I blogged about movies (mostly classic cinema) and pop culture for Suite101, a site which sadly has now gone the way of major domo.

I live in LA with my wife, our teenage daughter and our three dogs, the Tibetan Spaniel mix Hopper, and Chihuahuas Lindy and Chito. Thanks to a strange lifelong (but benign) obsession, I collect highly-detailed scale models of famous stadiums, including various models of stadiums (past and present) in my hometown, Cleveland.

Work Terms

For book editing or ghostwriting, I ask $45/hour, and keep detailed records of time worked. In some cases, I ask a flat fee (with unlimited hours), but I do that on a case-by-case basis, depending on the scope of a book project.

I also do consulting work with people who want to write a memoir (or other nonfiction work) but need guidance on structure, story threads, use of language and other things.

For TV, corporate or miscellaneous video scripts, I am negotiable, since projects vary widely in scope and time required. Rest assured, I am very reasonable in fees asked.

I'm also experienced in "little" needs--press releases, other small jobs. They're all negotiable.
