My journey in the accounting field began at Simpet Kenya Limited, where I started as an Accounts/Admin Assistant in April 2017. This role provided me with a solid foundation in financial management. I was responsible for preparing vouchers and maintaining accurate records of debtors and creditors. My meticulous nature allowed me to excel in stocktaking, where I verified inventory, ensuring that physical counts matched our records.
Every day was a new challenge. I managed daily sales deposit and generated banking summaries, which kept our revenue collection streamlined and efficient. I also ensured timely payments for statutory obligations like PAYE, NSSF, and NHIF. This role not only honed my technical skills but also taught me the importance of communication, as I interacted with clients and suppliers regularly.
In September 2018, I took a significant step forward in my career by joining Simpet Advisory Limited as an Accountant. This position allowed me to delve deeper into financial reporting and analysis. I utilized QuickBooks to accurately record all income, expenses, and assets. One of my key responsibilities was managing payroll, which involved ensuring the timely payment of statutory obligations and issuing pay slips.
I also took charge of vendor account reconciliations and monitored customer accounts for any irregularities, which enhanced my analytical skills. The experience of preparing purchase orders and identifying appropriate budget codes was invaluable, as it deepened my understanding of financial planning and management.
My next role as a Senior Accountant at RobiSearch Limited, from April 2019 to September 2020, marked a pivotal moment in my career. Here, I was responsible for a wide array of general accounting tasks, including reconciling balance sheet accounts and preparing monthly financial reports. I took pride in my ability to prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with regulations by efficiently managing VAT submissions and statutory deductions.
One of my significant contributions was overseeing the payment processing system. I ensured that all expenses were within assigned project budgets and verified the completeness of supporting documentation for payment vouchers. This role taught me the importance of accuracy and compliance in financial operations.
Additionally, I managed revolving funds and initiated bank transfers, working closely with our Operations Manager to ensure all financial activities were in line with company policies. I also played a crucial role in the preparation of financial audits, collaborating with auditors to ensure timely follow-up on their recommendations.
Throughout these experiences, I developed strong skills in financial analysis, finances management, and reporting. I became proficient in using ERP systems and maintained an up-to-date financial record that allowed the organization to make informed decisions.
