I have worked in education for 25 years as teacher and headteacher. Over the years I have come to appreciate that for some, the writing process can be an ordeal, not simply because of the lack of content but rather, because of insecurities over spelling, grammar, punctuation or creating textual cohesion.
I fell into proofreading and editing when friends and colleagues expressed their frustration and asked for help.I have been 'helping' now for 10 years and have proofread and edited many different text forms including, newsletters, scripts, stories and essays as well as countless amounts of teaching and learning material. I enjoy the work and find the intense focus that is needed strangely comforting! I would describe myself as a 'critical friend' which I feel is particularly important for those who are writing in English as their second language or struggling with writing. I have retired from teaching now and have moved from the UK to Spain to buy my own bookshop which I run with my eldest son. This is an absolute dream come true because I have always been an avid and prolific reader.
