Building dashboards isn’t just about making pretty graphics for your presentations, it’s about narrating a story to your audience.

And that’s who I am. A story builder who not only builds visualisations with the sole intent of showing them off to your stakeholders, but also with the intent of conveying a story to them.

As a business analyst at the largest telecom company in my country, my job is to build dashboards for the upper management to monitor the health of our user base and identify red flags timely. From time to time, I also have to carry out ad hoc analysis to uncover the why of what is happening around us.

So far I have:
- Built geo-spatial visualisations to highlight the movement of our user base from flood stricken regions
- Grew our user base by 5.5% by raising red flags timely and optimising processes
- And reduced the time needed to identify red flags by 30% by building story-driven dashboards

I am agnostic with respect to the data visualization software I am using, but am comfortable working with both Google Data Studio as well as Tableau.

My modus operandi is as follows:

- Getting to know the end objectives of your dashboard
- Who your target audience is
- Making a sketch of the dashboard using old fashioned pen and paper
- Going over the sketch with you and making revisions if needed
- Making the final version in the data viz software
