30+ years of experience in advocacy and education on sustainability issues in not-for-profit and academic settings.
I have worked on environmental, social, and good government issues since 1990. In my early work as an environmental and good government activist, I organized referenda petition drives that collected tens of thousands of signatures, which helped prompt the protection of the Long Island Pine Barrens and brought town council districts to the Town of Brookhaven. I have helped to draft legislation that was enacted by NY State. I also helped to develop town energy efficiency building codes for some Long Island towns that are among the most stringent in the nation. I have experience writing and editing reports, policy analysis white papers, newsletters, web articles, and other written materials. I have writin successful grant requests, and managed program activities to fulfill grant commitments. I have extensive experience in working with local municipal governments to help them improve their energy policies and practices.
I have developed and taught courses at the college level on sustainability and green business, in in-person, online, and hybrid formats. I have coordinated and prepared reading and presentation materials for a local leadership academy that focuses on vital social issues in New York’s Nassau and Suffolk counties, ensuring that educational materials are supported by authoritative sources and up-to-date.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics, from the State University of New York, University of Buffalo (1990), and my Master of Business Administration, Sustainable Business, with a concentration in Government Policy, from Marylhurst University (2016).
