A friendly wordsmith with a passion for sharp and stylish writing.
I was born and raised in Southern Scotland. I studied Philosophy and Modern History at Dundee University, then did a Ph.D. at Edinburgh. I'm a member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders.
I've written all my life. I am an award-winning, widely published and broadcast poet. I have also edited and proofread several novels, a short story collection, and several anthologies. I worked in the not-for-profit care sector for 30 years, during which time I've written/edited/proofread reams of business plans, funding proposals, policy documents, HR documents, web content, press releases, reports. I also wrote sales copy and other marketing materials part-time for a mail order/online gourmet food company.
Since striking out as a freelance writer, editor and proofreader, I've done all sorts of gigs for all sorts of people all over the world, from academics and students, to aspiring authors, to businesses and charities. I have received glowing testimonials and five-star feedback from nearly all my clients. I also blog at ahawritingservicescouk.wordpress.com and ahawritingtips.wordpress.com
Whatever your writing needs, I'm your man!
Work Terms
I usually calculate my fees per word rather than per hour, with lower rates for editing and proofreading than for writing something from scratch. This lets both myself and my prospective clients know exactly what I'm going to charge before the job begins. There are no hidden 'extras'.
