Writer and Editor for Scholars and Artists Alike
I am a legislative analyst for the City of Los Angeles, academic researcher in the social sciences, and creative writer. My goal for all of my writing and editing projects is to tell a story. Whether the project is a journal article, government report, college essay, or opinion editorial; I believe the most important thing an editor can do for their client is to ensure that the overall message is conveyed in a way that is both compelling and accessible for the reader.
My most recent editing and proofreading projects include dissertations, essays, and screenplays written by non-native English speakers. The experience has helped me to hone my technical writing skills, with regard to grammar and sentence structure, while improving my ability to identify my clients' voices in their work. My priority is to help them find their voices as storytellers in the English language without "overpowering" their content with my own personal writing style.
As a legislative analyst for the Los Angeles City Council, my task is to produce reports on highly technical issues that are both accessible and concise for politicians who frequently do not have technical backgrounds. I also occasionally ghost write opinion editorials for Councilmembers to publish in the Los Angeles Times. I take my work seriously because I believe effective communication is among the most important tools necessary for effective policy-making.
Work Terms
I am open to taking on jobs that are part-time, full-time, temporary, or long-term. My hourly rate for editing is $40 per hour, and I charge $0.25 per word for close proofreading. If the projects requires lighter proofreading and minimal feedback, I am happy to find a more appropriate rate. However, I give my projects close attention and prefer to work with clients who are interested in receiving feedback and maintaining open communication, so that I can make sure at every step of the way that I am meeting my client's needs.
