AVIC ILAGAN
is an alternative filmmaker, theater artist-teacher, and entrepreneur. She is also a senior resident artist-teacher of the Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA). She did production design, marketing and promotion, cultural research, as well as acted in many PETA plays. After years of theater work, she shifted to independent filmmaking in 1992. Her films “Ang Babae Kapag Nag-iisa sa Maynila” (A Woman Alone in Manila), “Dancing In The Light,” “Sowing Seeds” and “Homebound” have been screened internationally. She has won several awards for her documentaries and short feature films at the Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video in 1995, 1996 & 1997. As a former Children’s Television Program Director of PETA-BFI, she created educational television programming for children. She directed a number of drama teleplays aired on national television, and a women-empowerment television show called 3R (Respect, Relax, Respond) aired at GMA 7. Avic continues to make documentaries, AVPs and commissioned works. Avic is also Managing Director of blacksoup, a film collective that is composed of filmmakers. At the moment, she sits in the board of TAO Pilipinas, an NGO that works with designing and constructing communities for urban and rural poor.
She also do transcription work for other documentary filmmakers and events management.
