Turning your dream into a reality
Basil is an entrepreneur, marketing consultant, public speaker and blogger.
A little about his background…
Like many young boys, he had a dream for his life. Peer pressure and the desire to look “cool” in front of his peers led him to experiment with drugs and alcohol at 12 years old.
As the years went by, he began to abuse drugs and alcohol more and more. Then, Basil started to experience negative effects in different areas of his life.
After 15 years of causing pain and disappointment to himself and the people around him, he decided to make a positive change in his life.
He started attending church not far from where he lives. A few months later he started assisting the youth leader conduct sessions with the youth in the church on a Friday night.
Then he started leading meetings on his own when the youth would meet on a Friday night. He soon discovered that he loved speaking and helping other people.
One year later Basil decided to leave his Customer Service job at Cell C. He took a 3-week trip to Mozambique where he spent time speaking in church meetings near the city of Maputo.
When he got back to South Africa he spent time researching if there were opportunities for him to impact people with his life story.
Basil registered his business, Lechem Motivations, on September 2014. A few weeks later he managed to secure a meeting with a potential client.
He left the meeting unhappy because he did not use all the knowledge he had acquired while working as a sales agent. He never heard from the potential client again.
After reflecting on his interaction with the potential client, Basil realised that he needed to find a place where he could learn about running a sustainable business.
He heard about the Shanduka Black Umbrellas Business Incubator Programme. Now, Basil is receiving the best training and mentoring from this International Award Winning business incubator.
Currently, he also living his childhood dream of working in the marketing field.
