More than 30 years writing professionally for public relations (Easter Seals, universities, tourism, education) and as a news writer/photographer/editor.

I am a talented writer, able to tackle almost any topic familiar or otherwise. One doesn't need to know everything about everything, if one knows how to ask the right questions. I am especially talented with translating complex subjects normally dense with jargon so that they are comprehensible for the average reader. For example, while working for the public relations department at Easter Seals (a nonprofit that advocates for prevention of birth defects and provides services for the disabled), I interviewed physicians and researchers about their work in the area of preventing birth defects and published these stories as press releases or newsletters used for fundraising. While working for the tourism office for the northeastern section of Connecticut, I visited hundreds of sites within the 750-square-mile region to mine stories to promote the Quiet Corner as a destination and promote those stories to local media. As a reporter, I worked for a variety of publications as an "all purpose" writer. I also was editor of an online-only "hyperlocal" news site that, unfortunately, folded due to the site's owner's financial mistakes. I am currently semi-retired. I now work as a caregiver for the elderly and write occasionally on a freelance basis, simply because I enjoy writing. Guru.com seems to offer a nice variety of opportunities along with flexibility, which is why I have registered with this site for potential writing assignments.

Work Terms

I do most of my writing on the weekends but also have a flexible enough work schedule that I can work throughout the week. My terms of payment depend on the task, and I am willing to work within one's budget. I prefer email communication initially. Subsequently, phone calls or Skype communication are options.
