Clear, memorable and concise.

I write because I need to express myself, because I thoroughly enjoy collaborating with others helping them with their writing, and because the modest proceeds of my efforts allow me to travel. From the late 70s until I retired in 2010, I was a research biologist and technical writer, writing journal articles, scientific reports, white papers, and grants. Since 2010, I have expanded my range as a writer and editor enormously, editing or writing documents on agronomy, animal behavior, business management, computer programming, economics, marketing, medicine, meditation, psychology, self-help, and religion. Sometimes working wiith my wife, a published novelist, and sometimes on my own, I have also edited a dozens of novels and collections of short stories. A particular focus of my work as an editor has been theses and dissertations, often written by students whose native tongue is not English.

My greatest skill as an editor is understanding my clients' intended meaning, and then helping them to make their points clearly and forcefully. My greatest skill as a writer is in logical organization, word choice, and the ability to write clear, concise prose. I am familiar with all of the formatting conventions of the various styles of academic writing (APA, MLE, Harvard, and so on), I can format a document for Kindle, and I am quite familiar with creating and embedding graphics in Word documents. I tend to have repeat customers, and I enjoy to getting to know a client and developing a unique working relationship him or her.

Although I truly do enjoy learning for learning's sake, I am particularly familiar with medicine and the biological sciences, Buddhism and meditation, and psychology and sociology. I have, however, helped so many clients with documents relating to business management and marketing that I have begun to feel quite comfortable in these fields as well, almost as if I had audited an MBA program.

Work Terms

I am available any day of the week, and I am willing to work 40 or more hours a week if necessary. I generally charge about $25 an hour.
