Where abilities take flight
Seagull Services was founded in 1979 as Seagull Industries for the Disabled. The initial goal of the founders, parents of children with disabilities, was to improve the education and quality of life of individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Over the past 35 years the organization has developed a broader mandate and array of services. Today we provide advocacy and services for individuals with disabilities and their families and at the same time provide important work force development and employment services for people who have various barriers to employment that have made become among the long term unemployed. Seagull strives to connect people with resources, improve systems and community services, promote inclusive community practices and influence public policy while operating a charter school, employment and residential program and providing door to door transportation.
Over the years, our goal has been to improve the quality of life of the individuals we serve. This has been accomplished through advocacy and the provision of a variety of educational, social, vocational, transportation and residential services designed to encourage achievement, self-reliance and an independent, full, rich life at school, work, home and in the community.
Through a recent name change to Seagull Services, our Board and Staff are expanding the organization's original programs to enable Seagull to grow into the 21st Century. We believe that every person has the right to have an opportunity to live a satisfying, productive life; fully participate in the community; live as independently as possible, while having the support and resources necessary to pursue their dreams and fulfill their aspirations. To that end, Seagull is branching out to embrace new strategies and opportunities for the people we serve.
