My first paid gig came when I penned my own column called "Teen Scene," a bi-weekly column for my local newspaper. With my dad's support, I designed a plan to pitch an idea of an opinion-type piece to the daily paper, completely told from my point-of-view as a teen girl. I put a plan together, as well as some sample columns, and the newspaper staff loved it! The column ran for years up until I was a high school senior and headed off to college. Then it was taken over by a new teen writer who carried on my legacy. So, needless to say, writing has been a passion of mine for many, many years.
