Hi! Thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit about me. I am a psychology major in my FINAL semester of my BA degree at George Mason University. If I am a psychology major – why am I on a freelance site offering proofreading and editing help? Well, for one, my BA degree was dragged out over about 10 years while I worked full-time and attended school part-time. Throughout the process there were a few instances that left an impression on me and helped me come to the realization that, while I love psychology, writing/editing might actually be the best career path for me. The first instance was when my literature professor, with an annoyed tone in her voice, asked, “Why aren’t you an English major?” At the time I was caught off guard and could not answer that question…but it certainly intrigued me. Throughout the last 10 years I’ve had the opportunity to work in a couple different areas of psychology, and have subsequently learned more of what I don’t want to do in psychology. What was interesting though, was that anytime I was tasked with proofreading, editing, or writing in my work I became oddly excited. Additionally, I received reinforcement from supervisors and peers that I was, in fact, skilled at these tasks. And now, in my final semester, I’ve decided to shift my career goals and efforts towards writing/editing. So here I am, on guru.com, attempting my dreams to do what I love and hopefully make a living in the process. We all have to start somewhere. I am starting by throwing my hat in the freelancer ring and seeing where it takes me.
