We build web applications.
illustrationsource.com was my first major python/django application running on AWS. The success we had with Django inspired the company to ditch their ColdFusion systems in favor of Django/Python for their online magazine assets. The illustration source site required us to provide the customer with access to an image among millions. Amazon's S3 service was extremely useful in this instance, allowing us to provide the customer with a link to the image immediately after the CC transaction ... and automated expiration of access to the image.
At broadway.com I brought a crippled django application online quickly to meet deadlines. A few months later we brought online a much more capable django backend ... able to handle even the serious traffic demands associated with events like the Tony's.
At Idle Games we developed a python backend to interface with a C++ real-time engine and the Flash front-end. With the scale we expected the initial developers had created a sharded MySQL database backend ... the setup though functional was not ideal. So we brought MongoDB into the picture ... allowing us to automate sharding. Much of my focus was on performance, so in addition to implementing much of the MongoDB oriented code. I implemented things like a connection pooling system in the Django ORM for both MongoDB and MySQL, Celery/RabbitMQ, along with a number of caching layers with memcached.
