Teasing the dynamism out of every word
Over the last twelve years I have balanced a career in teaching middle and high school special ed with a freelance career covering a variety of projects from memoirs to magazine articles. I have experience with diverse clients, on diverse pieces, and enjoy the challange and responsibility of being part of the creative process. I have published two novels of my own to date, and am comfortable with the ins and outs of the publishing process. On the academic side of things, I helped create the course manual and materials for the undergraduate editing program at IUPUI where I studied American Lit at the Master's level. I read steadily, mixing a penchant for the classics with more modern fiction, as well as a healthy dose of biography, history, and other non-fiction thrown in. This has helped me gain a good understanding of that ever-elusive "feel," the way a book or article is supposed to "go," or "sound." Helping to tell the story, or make the argument, or express the inner pull, these are the things that draw me back again and again to the written word, be it Dumas's musketeers, or your newest short story.

Flexible hours, able to adapt (within reason) to client needs. Email is the easiest way to reach me, and I am happy to provide initial overview re fees, deadlines, negotiations, etc., before officially signing on to the project. I feel every piece is unique and yours, so our partnership should match that individuality as well.
