Structural Engineer
I graduated in 2011 with an MSc in Structural Engineering at University of Manchester. Upon graduation, I have joined an engineering consultancy in Manchester that exposed me to:
• Analysis and design of concrete, steel and masonry structures in commercial, nuclear and oil & gas sectors. Design, evaluation and retrofitting of Structures and Equipment for extreme loading (seismic, wind, blast and impact). Independent Technical Assessment of seismic and blast design calculations and support documentation
• Advanced finite element analysis and design
• Blast engineering analysis and design for UK nuclear sector as well as for the oil & gas upstream/downstream industries in support of safety cases. Structural analysis of existing buildings and upgrade recommendations. Petrochemical, hydrogen and dust explosion hazards to industrial facilities. Jet and pool fire hazards to petrochemical facilities.
• NATCAT assessments. Facilities walkdowns to inspect seismic, flood and windstorms vulnerabilities and suggest upgrades.
After 4years of working in Manchester, I moved to London to gain some experience on site, where I worked as a Civil Engineer on the construction of a commercial building in Leicester Square, London. The highlight of this project is one of the deepest excavations in London (30m) to allow for a six-stories basement and a 4 stories superstructure.
Responsibilities included:
- QA Management
- Producing As-built drawings
- Setting out & Surveying
I am currently working for a structural engineering consultancy in Central London, mainly on commercial and residential design.
