Software Engineer and aspiring Data Scientist.
My professional career began in retail as I studied information technology and wrote individual programs as a fledgling developer. Since that time, I have worked as a freelance software engineer, research assistant, Unix/Linux Systems Administrator, and a Systems Administrator for an HPC cluster.
I began experimenting with scripting back in 2006 as I discovered open source technology with Python and the Bourne Again Shell. My work focused on adjusting scripts for personal use and administrative activities for my community college. During this time frame, I picked up html and javascript.
Before attending the University of Iowa, I gained experience from working with applications and creating programs for practice and testing what I knew. I picked up Java as my first foray into Object Oriented software design and practiced with Ruby extensively and its interactions with SQL.
During my time at the University of Iowa, I was tested with numerous projects. My skills as a software engineer were sharpened significantly as I was pushed to think about and plan for restrictions as they were added and requirements were changed during the production process.
The past year I began researching Machine Learning and Data Science, building upon my skills with SciPy and earning a certificate in MATLAB in October. My current project is nearing completion, an application in Supervised Learning and Linguistics.
My skill set is largely application development, web building, back end development, and bug fixing.
That being said, I have done a great amount of work across many platforms, ranging from iPhone, Android, Microsoft, and the Unix/Linux family. I have worked with web pages, from correcting html script to writing full backend packages for e-commerce and database management. I am comfortable with both Ansible and Puppet; as well as setting up and maintaining a Hadoop cluster.
