I've been a tutor for many years now in various different countries including Dominican Republic, Brazil, Ivory Coast, the USA, and more. During this time I've tutored a wide range of subjects including programming, English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
During my University years, I took a grand interest in the engineering field and the different cultures and languages of the world, and started to see and understand how I wanted to use the skills I attained. I served as a tutor for programming, science, and engineering related subjects, as well as teaching Spanish and finding the time to travel internationally and teach engineering. My favorite part was listening as they taught me, as I learned more about cultures of the world than I could have imagined.
These experiences not only helped me to become a better teacher and tutor, they helped me to understand what I believe to this day to be my purpose in life. I'd like to travel internationally to inspire and serve as an engineering teacher and role model to young people in various different countries. For the many years I've been a traveler, going to different countries and making it my focus to learn their language(s), their customs among the youth, creating lifelong relationships with people I'm still friends with to this day, understanding their struggles, and learning how to be a better teacher for young people.
Because of this, I currently speak 5 languages quite well (English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Haitian Creole), and I plan on learning a lot more. Teaching myself these languages has no doubt been one of the greatest factors that influence how I am able to effectively teach languages to others. It has shown me the “why” certain rules are in place when speaking certain languages. I’m also able to relate to what they’re going through as a language learner, because I’ve gone through all of it myself, making my methods of teaching far more efficient than if I were a native speaker teaching someone.
