Master of Arts in Human Resources Management, Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and Psychology PHR certified.
I have a broad 30 year career background with a mix of human resources, operations and marketing. I have worked in a diverse range of industries including hospitality, retail, telecommunications, construction and health care. I have always had a healthy level of career curiosity. I want to know how and why things work, and how to fix them when they don’t work. Whenever I begin working with a client in an industry that is new to me, I take time to work the job right next to employees to better understand what they do. The most fascinating part of this experience is learning something new every day. Inspired by my grandfather (some might say drafted), I began working in the family-owned businesses at the tender age of 11. At this young age, I learned the essentials of running successful travel, motor coach, real estate investment and agricultural equipment manufacturing businesses. After graduating from Purdue University, I pursued a corporate career path with companies such as Opryland Hotel and Verizon Wireless, but never lost touch with my entrepreneurial spirit. In 2007, I founded Synergy Consulting and in 2014, I founded The Idea Group HR. While my primary focus is on providing human resources support for small business owners, I am passionate about shaping the future of human resources and the culture of the American workplace. I believe we can all be a pebble in the pond and create the ripples that move improvement. These are a few of my HR pebble initiatives that I’ve implemented for my client companies: Aligning Brand and Culture under a shared purpose to bridge the gap between aspirations and reality, giving rise to a culture employees brag about and customers beg to buy from.
