Building Better Experiences with Data-Backed Decisions
A student says to his master: "You talk about peace but you teach me fighting. How do you reconcile the two?" The master replied: "It is better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war."
I'm a deep thinker and problem solver and I see the world in terms of jazz. Jazz? Yes, jazz. It's a world where the rules are carefully observed but stretched at every opportunity. It's not modern art - convention must be observed. New concepts must be built on existing concepts. But it's a living art form that's constantly expanding and growing. It's a lifelong pursuit.
For most of my life, my work as a professional musician was the only way to express this view of the world. But that's a line of work that's taxing on the mind and body and my pursuit of, as it were, an alternate medium lead me to the world of User Experience Design and Human Interaction. The UX field introduced me to another dimension to this exploration - the ability to quantify and assign data values to an experience. And it's here that my nomadic mind has found a home. I've given myself various labels throughout the years, some presumptuous or vague, like "thinker". None have fit more comfortably than "researcher" and "designer".
There are a great many things I'm passionate about. First and foremost I am a husband and father. I am passionate about the authors that I read. I am passionate about taking care of my body and mind.
