David Ford was born in La Jolla, California. He became a graduate of Arizona State College and the University of South Dakota. He studied to become a lawyer at the Dramatic Workshop of the New School for Social Research.[1] In 1967, he married his Dark Shadows co-star, Nancy Barrett after his arrest but; they divorced in 1969. Ford suffered from alcoholism the better part of his life while living in Avon, CT, and on August 7, 1983, he died of a coronary heart assault in New York, New York. He was fifty-seven years old. He was buried in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
