Licensed physician, medical writer, and more
I am a licensed physician, and currently write almost exclusively on medical topics for both consumers and professionals. I write under my own name as well as do ghost writing. I still occasionally write articles about television, film, and theater, and do business profiles for companies outside the medical field. I have edited journal papers (primarily for non-native English speakers) and a number of medical websites.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IT IS HARD TO VIEW GURU WRITING SAMPLES WITH SOME BROWSERS. I will attach samples to bids.
I started writing as a physician. When looking for a second career in writing, what began with a single submission to CINEFANTASTIQUE about STAR TREK turned into many assignments for articles in CFQ's TREK issues. By 1998 I was the resident "Trekspert" in charge of all the TREK coverage for CFQ - a cover-story, book-length issue once a year for the two TV shows and the films. I covered sci-fi television and movies for multiple websites and print magazines.
I now write medical articles for consumers as well as healthcare professionals. I have many long-standing relationships with employers. For example, I have written a monthly health newsletter for the last six years for one employer. Please contact me if you need medical writing. I do occasionally do other writing, so if you need biographies of celebrities or analysis of film or television, feel free to contact me. I do not write fiction myself.
If you are not sure if I can provide the writing assistance you need, feel free to ask me.
Work Terms
Please take note of my hourly rate and mininum fee before inviting me to make a proposal. I prefer to charge a fee for a specific task. I charge 10 cents a word for most writing. As a native English speaker with a BA in English literature, and a licensed physician, I do not do bulk, low-quality writing.
I prefer to be contacted by email and I will usually respond within minutes to hours. Phone conversations can be arranged. I do not necessarily do my writing during the standard work week, so feel free to contact me at other times.
I would appreciate employers leaving feedback for me when a project is completed. I will also leave feedback for my employers. My ethics and standards of conduct as a physician have served me well as a freelance writer, and employers can feel comfortable that I will honor all agreements.
