Nonfiction Proofreading Plus
I’m a meticulous copyeditor specializing in nonfiction. Vermont (USA) is my home now, and I grew up in Pennsylvania. I’ve been freelance editing for five years; since 2019, I’ve also been working for an online proofreading service. I have never been employed by a publishing company, but I did manage to log 17 years in the nonprofit sector in positions where proofreading and attention to detail were absolutely critical (a college library, an investment company catering to philanthropists, and a Realtor association).
I have copyedited all manner of nonfiction writing: book manuscripts, business reports, nonprofit annual reports, website content, recipes, blog posts, marketing materials, slideshows, spreadsheets, video captions—you get the idea! Many projects involve taking text that was either translated or written by someone who learned English pretty well but did not grow up speaking it at home, and making it sound natural to “native” speakers of the American dialect.
I’m game to consider any project, regardless of content. I bring special knowledge of my own—from work or from lived experience—to these subjects:
• American Christianity
• theology/religion
• private and community foundations
• higher education in the US
• libraries
• music
• football (sports generally, but mainly football)
• parenting
• adoption
• disabilities
• autism
• anxiety/OCD
• gardening
• farming/rural life
Work Terms
I work on a project basis. My rates are negotiable and usually fall between $0.01 and $0.02 per word.
