Native French and English speakers experienced in translation/proofreading
I started proofreading two years ago just by chance. I found it great fun to do, almost like a hobby, and decided I wanted to do more, so I started doing translation.
I work alongside a native French speaker for English and French translations. We believe that two native translators improves the quality and accuracy, particularly when it comes to terminology. Also, it means that we always have a native proofreader to check spelling, grammar and readability. Our priorities are ensuring that our translations sound native, are consistent, and free from language errors. We have now translated 370,000 words, not including proofreading!
Our translation and proofreading specialities are medical, business and general (non-technical). We chose these because of our backgrounds. I'm in my final year of medicine, and once qualified I'm planning to move to France for further specialty training. François is doing a Masters in international business. François has studied and worked in the UK in marketing. His specific interest is international trade. He's also fluent in Portuguese and speaks good Italian.
We do freelance translation and proofreading for two translation agencies on a regular basis. One of our goals is to be more independent in our translation work and be able to interact with clients directly.
The feedback we receive for our work is highly positive. We think this is because we care and put in the time to ensure that our translations are as good as we can make them.
Our past projects have included:
-Medical: Doctor's letters, operation reports, discharge letters, healthcare articles
-Legal: certification, affidavits, court decisions, litigation requests, contracts, divorce documents, tax declarations, power of attorney
-Business: marketing, meeting agendas, business strategy, websites
-General: song lyrics, books, job adverts, information leaflets

Our translation rates are £0.03 per word for non-technical documents and £0.04 for technical documents. For proofreading, our rates are £0.02 per word for technical documents and £0.01 for non-technical.
