Hi there! I’m from the Detroit area, and I hold a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and a Master's from Harvard University. I speak Russian and Ukrainian, as well as some Polish, Yiddish, and Japanese.
My approach to my academic and professional work has always been defined by an uncompromising belief in the value of clear, compelling writing, deep research, and the magic of the right word at the right time. Good writing can carry a message across languages and cultures, or just across a desk, and making that happen is my mission.
And, when I’m not thinking about any of the above, I can usually be found enthusiastically texting about a delicious sandwich I just ate or cajoling acquaintances to submit to the blog I run, I Dream of Blini, a chronicle of (semi-)anonymous dreams about the former Soviet Union.
