Three-phase editing following the standards and guidelines of CMOS (Chicago Manual of Style) Line editing, copyediting, proofreading, and beta reading, individually or in combination.
I am an avid reader of a wide variety of genres. I love the English language with all of its nuances. The evolution of language is intriguing. I am fascinated by new and old words and learning about their origins. As a young child, my favorite author was Dr. Seuss. His creative, whimsical language made me love reading.
Several years ago, a friend of mine needed a second set of eyes to go over his manuscript for a trilogy he is in the process of writing. I enjoyed it so much that I volunteered to beta-read and proofread for a few others. Over the last year, I have taken some online courses to brush up on my punctuation and grammar skills. I have reacquainted myself with CMOS and purchased a copy of the 17th edition. I am actively seeking clients looking for beta reading, line editing, copyediting, and proofreading services. My most recent client is an author local to me. Fulton Books accepted his manuscript. He asked me to be his agent and help him navigate the prepublication process.
Beta reading is quick and does not involve any editing. Line editing is my favorite phase because it is the most creative. Copyediting is more of a technical look at grammar, punctuation, and formatting. I will only suggest the rewrite of a sentence if necessary.
Proofreading is the last line of defense before publication.
My goal is to make a full-time career out of these services within three years. I will continue to take online courses to improve my skill set and add to my offered services.
