I am a professional teacher, associated with this profession for 25 years now.
Taking teaching up as a profession I realized that English language learning is a major requirement of the students. It’s imperative that to be a professional, one needs to get professional training. I enrolled in the Certificate for Overseas Teachers of English course offered by the RSA board, Cambridge University. C.O.T.E is equivalent to TEFL which is why the British Council, Karachi contacted me for IELTS examiner position. Thus, I examined IELTS from 2003 till 2014.
Teachers are lifelong learners, over the course of my career I learned school management, staff development, curriculum and evaluation development among others and progressed from being a teacher to a Headmistress. I went for my Master’s degree to University of Strathclyde at Glasgow on scholarship and returned to become a Master Trainer and Regional Academic Coordinator of the school, covering a whole range of educational responsibilities.
I employ a variety of teaching methodologies according to the requirements of the students and topics. For the past 2 years, I have been training IELTS candidates for their Speaking and Writing exams. Awareness of the IELTS exam criteria and language requirements as an examiner gives me the insight to evaluate a candidate’s level of language and according plan a progressive strategy for skill enhancement. The individual need based teaching has greatly assisted my students with some of them starting at level 5 and reaching 7 and 7.5 band eventually.
I am very interested in acquiring knowledge about my environment. Therefore, I never miss an opportunity to travel, read or watch information about places of importance and interest. I’ve had good many opportunities to travel within my country and abroad and I’ve taken those advantage to the fullest.
