An accidental, but expert and meticulous proofreader and copyediter.
After 25 years in the professional world of airport management, I made the decision to stay at home and care for my mother, who has early dementia. Not being able to work outside the home anymore, I found freelancing as a way to support us. And I couldn't be happier with my coincidental choice. I love freelancing because proofreading and copyediting is fun, and, at the same time, I'm able to be there for my mother whenever she needs me.
I have been passionate about the written word my entire life. It started as a little girl who had just learned to read helping my father, who had a printing business in our home, proofread his typeset. I became an avid reader and writer, and have often dreamed of being a published. In my former career, I had to develop and constantly hone my writings skills as a major function of my job. Now, I'm putting a lifetime of experience to use by offering my services as a freelancer.
But I am not so naive as to believe I could just become a pro over night. I've researched and taken classes, and discovered that being a proofreader and copyeditor is a craft that goes beyond knowing proper English and being a good writer. I learn something new almost every day.
Work Terms
I am located in Florida, USA. I work during normal waking hours on the US East coast. I generally work 7 days a week. The only days I may not be available to work at all are usually US holidays.
I will often ask for 50% of the total contract price upon contract execution, with the balance being due upon successful completion. I do this because I've learned the hard way that not every client is honest.
