Data scientist with strong research/academic background and Python programming skills
I am a data scientist at a fintech startup dealing with problems related to alternative credit scoring and social media text analytics. I have worked with a large volume of transactional, financial and textual data on the job.
Last January, along with the senior members of our startup, I participated in the Google Launchpad Accelerator in San Francisco. While there, I was able to receive mentorship and training on machine learning from Google.
Previously, I was a research assistant in the Institute of Mathematics at the University of the Philippines wherein I used optimal control theory and patient data to study how the human body reacts to exercise. We were able to publish our results in the international peer-reviewed journal Mathematical Biosciences. I was also able to present our results at the European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology 2016 held in Nottingham, United Kingdom.
During my undergraduate years, I was also a research member of the Complexity Science group at the National Institute of Physics, University of the Philiippines Diliman. I studied epidemiological models extensively and came up with a model for the spread of dengue in the Philippines for my thesis.
I hold a master's degree in Applied Mathematics and a bachelor's degree in Physics, magna cum laude, both from the University of the Philiippines Diliman.
My main programming tool is Python. I am experienced with the Python data science and text analytics stack - Pandas, matplotlib, seaborn, scikit-learn, BeautifulSoup, NLTK, and Gensim, among others. I am also proficient in R and the big data tools of the Google Cloud Platform.
I also started a blog on the intersection of data science and media analysis (datameetsmedia.com). I have articles on the mathematics of Survivor voting alliances, sentiment analysis of Black Mirror episodes, and a lot more. Check it out if you're interested.
