Gustavo Mendez, the oldest of four brothers and one sister, was born in Moyuta, a humble town in eastern Guatemala. At age 14, his father was murdered, which made Gus' family to migrate to the United States. He grew up in Washington, D.C but never graduated from high school. He dropped out so he could help his mom raise his four little siblings.
His passion for art was born when he first watched a cartoons on television. He was 8 years old when his dad purchased their first TV. From that day on, he wanted to draw everything he watched, but he couldn't go to art school because there wasn't any. And it wasn't until 2008 when he decided to go back to school and finish high school and pursue a career in fine arts.
He graduated from Miami International University of Art and design with a Bachelor degree in fine Arts in 2012. Today, he lives in Adelphi, Maryland and spends his days working as a freelance artist.
