About

Striving to create clean and cohesive sound for any world imaginable.

Hannah Foerschler is a sound designer, musician, and audio engineer residing in Chicago.

Hannah was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, where she grew up as a classically trained musician. Her parents like to say she was singing by her first birthday, but her formal music studies began in elementary school and continued through her undergraduate career.

At Kenyon College, Hannah pursued her bachelor’s degree in music with a focus on vocal performance. However, Kenyon was also where Hannah discovered a new passion of theatre sound design, which she has been pursuing ever since. After graduating from Kenyon in 2015, Hannah spent thirteen months apprenticing at the Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea, Michigan, learning the ins and outs of professional non-profit theatre. She earned her AEA candidacy during those months, but she left still very focused on theatre sound.

In 2018, Hannah was accepted into the Sound Arts and Industries master’s program at Northwestern University, so she made the big move to Chicago. Her master’s work introduced her to a broader use of her sound design skills, including sound art, digital composition, audio engineering, and recording techniques. For her thesis research, she studied the phenomenon of digital music streaming manipulation, and her capstone project, Elephants, was an interactive sound installation she designed and built herself. She graduated from the program in August 2019.

Hannah continues to design for the Chicago storefront theatre and audio fiction scenes, but she has also dipped her toes in music production. She keeps herself busy with her social media music act, Baby Casio, and when she’s not doing something sound related, she’s probably petting a dog or baking something.
