Wow, Heather really trumped my expectations.
I got 17 quotes on my request for editing a Nonfiction eBook.
Some of those did a sample edit for me, including Heather.
There are huge differences between editing services, you need to be clear what it is you are looking for.
As non-native English writer, I looked for basic grammar, punctuation editing and some nice-to-have-if-included premium things. Although most of the editors did that correctly, even there you can see differences in how many details the editor can find.
Heather not only corrected obvious mistakes, but also misworded phrases (e.g. there are subtle differences between “approach” and “way” or “joy” and “fun”). Most of the editors did not look at things like that.
On top of that she was among the quickest to reply, and again among those who replied most thoroughly when I had some issue or just side-questions. Again something where you can spot the pros.
On top of that, Heather highlighted major broad-view logical and ease-of-reading flaws to me- which NONE of the others did. Yes, this is not a typical editing service, but it is placed somewhere along the line between a good editor and a ghostwriter.
On top of that, Heather helped me in writing my sales page, just as a nice bonus to editing my 22K book.
On top of that, Heather (at least as of now) offers a 2-round editing process. Where she does and sends you the first edit, you adjust everything and improve it and THEN you send it to her again for a second edit. This procedure, although extremely useful, was only suggested by Heather in her first pitch to me, not by somebody else. As Heather’s first edit was already better than all the version of samples I received from other editors, I dread to think how my book would have looked like without a second edit, plus without a second edit from Heather.
A good editing service is something you cannot compromise on. Readers hate mistakes. Based on that, pricing until a certain threshold (for me 400$ for 20K words) should not really be an issue. Funnily, even although Heather did way more for me than others, even in the first sample, the service was absolutely reasonable priced compared to others. If you adjust it for the value she provided with her work and the others did for theirs, then she undoubtedly had the best investment-return ratio.
As I wrote a book about selling books (the one Heather edited for me), I know how hard it is to get thorough, happy, trustworthy reviews that I am happy to give here.
Altogether, highly satisfied. Will work with her again. Five Stars.
