Communications professional passionate about writing and social media
Hello! My name is Hilary and I'm a communications professional who grew up in Pittsburgh, was educated in PR and event management in Toronto and has experience working around the world.
Most recently I gained experience in technical writing learned while working at Alcoa, a Fortune 500 multi-materials powerhouse. I created content to be posted on their Intranet and sent out in newsletters, seen by 59,000+ employees across the globe. I was involved in all aspects of communications at Alcoa, from social media to government affairs.
Most of my work has typically been in the sport and entertainment industry, where I have done freelance event work for the National Hockey League and International Ice Hockey Federation. I was the Community Manager at a start-up sports media brand, The Gal's Got Game, where I had the opportunity to write for The Huffington Post Canada.
My writing experience goes as far back as high school, where I was published in ESPN Rise. At only 17, I was an accredited member of the media for the 2010 Winter Olympics, where I wrote about hockey and interviewed professional athletes for a popular blog. My interest in writing continued throughout college, where I wrote for the school newspaper, ran a club blog and started working on freelance writing projects.
I'm looking to work on communications projects - whether it be writing, social media or marketing - in a variety of fields but have a particular interest in sports, music, film, health, food, lifestyle, fashion and pop culture.
