Full Stack Designer, I love beauty and silence
DESIGN: I design to have a relation to beauty. I like the challenge of refining design to its essence. And I love creating things that work. My design principles are minimalist, influenced by Rothko, Ad Reinhardt, Dieter Rams and VOMIR. I run a small company in Cairo, Egypt specialised in branding, logos, and Wordpress-focused web design and development. See:
WRITING / EDITING: I hold three degrees, including a PhD from the University of Bristol. I am a former Fulbright Scholar and have taught politics at universities in the UK, the US, Egypt and Palestine. When I'm not teaching, I work as a print and digital media editor for Al-Ahram based in Cairo, and have more than 10 years of experience at over one million words per year.
I am available for a wide range of editing and copywriting projects.
DESIGN OUTLOOK: I am profoundly moved by Mark Rothko. Also Ad Reinhardt. Simplicity and greatness combined, they point to formlessness and oblivion, from which all beauty emerges. I am — as perhaps they were — fascinated by essences, and condensing things down to the greatest extent possible. It's not easy to do in practice, but as I develop as a graphic designer, and web developer, and concept strategist and brand specialist, I often gain inspiration in the space they imagined. I am a great fan of minimalism. In the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupery, "Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."
