About

Crafting content, stories, and success--one word at a time.

Award-Winning Writer | Memoir Specialist | Mentor for Voices That Matter

When I began my writing business in the late 1990s, I never imagined that “as-told-to” stories—memoirs written for or in collaboration with everyday people—would grow into a genre with such widespread appeal. What started as a quiet service for families wanting to preserve their histories has evolved into a mission-driven career devoted to giving voice to real-life stories that deserve to be heard.

Over the past 20+ years, I’ve written and co-written more than 200 memoirs and books, including Call of the Couch, H.O.P.E., and Stealing My Innocence. While many of my clients still choose to write books for family and friends, an increasing number have chosen to share their life journeys publicly, helping others heal, connect, and grow.

In 2010, my focus shifted in response to a deeper calling—amplifying the voices of those impacted by mental health challenges and survivors of childhood trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, and veterans diagnosed with PTSD. While mental health awareness has improved, so has the need for safe, authentic storytelling.

Over the years, I’ve been honored with over 20 literary awards across various genres, including memoir, fiction, short story, screenplay, and children's literature. Highlights include:

Gold Medal – Your Life Matters Award (Trafficked, 2009)

Gold Medal – AXIOM Business Book Awards (Call of the Couch, 2015)

Gold Medal – Midwest Independent Publisher Awards (Call of the Couch, 2015)

Gold Medal – Deliberate Illiterate Writing Society (Poison, 2013)

Gold Medal – Surprising Adventures Travel Writing (Sissy’s Adventure, 2017)

Gold Medal – LBS Book Awards (The Story of Salvador, 2018)

Highest Honor – Memoirs, Production of 100 Awards (When the Sun Rises Over Moon Valley, 2019)

In 2022, I made the decision to add mentorship to aspiring writers who want to tell their own stories but don’t know where to begin.

This mentorship includes support with structure, pacing, voice, emotional tone, and the writing process itself. It’s a labor of love—because I believe every story matters, and sometimes all a writer needs is a little encouragement and the right guide to help them along the way.

Personal Life:

I’m a father of four, a lifelong traveler, and a believer in the power of kindness and co-parenting. I’ve lived across the U.S. and in places as diverse as St. Croix and Cuba. When I’m not writing or mentoring, you’ll find me coaching tennis, hiking, painting, gardening, or chasing the elusive beep of my metal detector.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful, experienced writer to help bring your story to life—or if you want to tell your own story and need a guide—I’d love to hear from you.

Let’s build something beautiful, one page at a time.

Work Terms

Each project I take on is unique, and so is the pricing. Whether you're looking for a single article, a complete memoir, or mentorship on your own manuscript, I offer flexible pricing options tailored to your needs.

💼 Flexible Payment Options
I offer both hourly rates and fixed-fee packages, depending on the scope and structure of your project. After an initial consultation, we’ll decide together which payment format is best suited to your goals and timeline.

Hourly Rate: Ideal for smaller or open-ended projects such as coaching, editing, or article writing.

Fixed-Fee Projects: Best for larger, clearly defined work like full-length memoirs, business books, or multi-phase editing projects.

💰 Pricing Variables
Costs are determined based on a number of factors, including:

Project type (memoir, business article, fiction, script, etc.)

Length and complexity

Research and interview time

Timeline or deadline requirements

Editing and formatting needs

Final deliverables (print-ready files, formatted eBooks, etc.)

Each quote is customized after a discovery call to ensure fairness, transparency, and clarity.

🗓 Payment Schedule
For larger projects, a 50% deposit is typically required up front to begin work, with the balance paid upon completion or delivered in agreed-upon milestones. Based on our agreement, invoices may be sent pre-paid, weekly, or upon receipt for ongoing work.

🔁 Revisions & Edits
Fixed-fee projects include up to two rounds of revisions to make sure you're happy. Additional revisions can be billed hourly.
