I proofread, edit, rewrite and even write from scratch to high, meticulous and professionally recognised standards.
I´m an Irish national, resident in Spain, where I have worked for the last 17 years as a teacher and trainer of English. The most personally rewarding part of that experience was improving students´ writing skills from beginners to the highest level, and also the production of my own materials. To build on this skill and passion I have recently passed a comprehensive and professionally recognised proofreading course with an overall merit (85.7%) score. This course thoroughly prepared me, through lots of practical assignment work, with the confidence and knowledge to work in the field. I can dispel all those doubts about the finer aspects of grammar, vocabulary and punctuation, but beyond that are the finer points that a good proofreader always spots: factual error finding, contradictions, typographical consistency, ambiguity, layout, reference checking, optimum positioning of diagrams/images and more. In 2020 I successfully proofread a 55,000 word novel, awaiting imminent publication. I have an honours degree in Social Sciences from the University of North London. I have also done high level technical/scientific translations from Spanish into English. I am really enthusiastic about putting my skills to good use - making your written work as good as it can possibly be.
Work Terms
Flexible working hours; flexible terms of payment to be negotiated. Every job is as unique as its owner. I have worked on some big translations and edits of translations, so I´m no stranger to working to deadlines and dealing efficiently with documents online. As a teacher of English I have developed strong and clear communication skills, and in proofreading and editing, I believe that getting the buyer-seller communication factor right is as important as getting the written work right. I´m decisive, so I don´t beat around the bush when it come to answering questions about delivery times and prices. Above all, I pride myself on honesty. If I think somebody else can do a particular job better than me, I will tell you straight.
