I am a truly believer and fan of magic. Magic created on sets where passionate people, united in their belief in the power of the moving image, manage to touch human kind’s most recondite feelings. As film-makers, we create new realities, elicit innumerable emotions from happiness and love, to tension and despair, and conjure countless endings: sometimes sad, sometimes happy, sometimes endings that are mere paths to new beginnings.
?For several years, I filmed wildlife and commercial clips for the travel industry, with a marketing objective but a creator’s eye. I learnt my film-making craft on these productions, often working alone or in very small teams, on tight budgets, transforming ideas and sketched notes into final polished promotional products, working as a screenwriter, producer, director, cameraman, gaffer… You name it. I would then edit and colorize the clips, and put them to music.
My passion and love for what I do is reflected in the attention to detail that I put into everything I do – whether operating cameras, directing the lights on the set, editing, or producing.
?I left Ecuador to study for my Master ´s degree in Cinematography at ESCAC, in Barcelona, Spain. I made the most of my time in Europe to travel and experience different cultures.
Travel taught me independence, problem-solving, empathy and budgeting! My experiences as a student have given me technical skills, of course, but also brought home to me the importance of team-building, uniting disparate creative people towards a common goal.
?I believe in light with the same intensity that I believe in shadows. I believe in scenes capable of holding the attention of the whole world, framed so that everything else melts away into nothing. But above all, I believe in the spark of creativity and the power of the moving image over an audience. I have a long way to fly and a lot of stories to tell. I am convinced colors, words, sounds, videos and the tools of our craft can transmit.
