I am interested in editing, proofreading, and writing both technical and non-technical works. My qualifications are outlined below.
• Publications: I have published a number of research articles in Materials Science and Engineering, specifically in polymers research. I took a very brief hiatus from submitting articles to journals because Kendall Hunt Publishing contacted me about writing a textbook for one of the courses I teach. Because there were no textbooks that fulfilled my needs for the course, I took the opportunity to create the book I needed for the class. The textbook, entitled Survey of Engineering: A Guide to Choosing an Engineering Major, was published on July 22, 2014.
• Research: I have four active research projects, including drug delivery contact lenses, hydration sensor and autonomous sprinkling system, and a super-absorbent, biodegradable polymer project where I am collaborating with a startup company in Guatemala to develop materials for feminine hygiene.
• Grants: I have submitted many grant proposals to entities including the Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, internal funding opportunities through my organization, and Nine Sigma.
• Creativity: While most of my work falls under the academic umbrella, I enjoy working on creative works, and have a short series of books in progress that span genres. The characters live in a small town and they believe in aliens. Furthermore, I enjoy thinking creatively both in solving problems and in improving my surroundings. I have won cooking competitions and written fictional works, but I also enjoy being presented with problems and exploring novel ways of solving them, including the way I solved the problem for the startup company in Guatemala.
Sincerely,
Jeff Bates, PhD
