Permarchitecture first started out as a way to redefine the relationship I had with my profession. What does it mean to make good houses today?
There's one obvious answer: it means making them together with the people who are living in them. It means empowering you to make your own decisions instead of handing out dictates.
So permarchitecture has morphed from a freelance architecture business to consulting and teaching, to, ultimately, a network of people working together to make better choices and build better homes themselves. Beautiful, sustainable and affordable homes.
Sustainability is not a genre. In this day and age, if you're not incorporating sustainability in your design, you're not an architect.
It's as simple as that.
If you don't incorporate wellness and all this new information we have about the way humans subconsciously interact with built environments, I'm sorry, but you're not doing your job. And if you insist on leaving out the very persons the building is for in favor of boosting your own ego or making more profit, you're not only not a true professional, you're a villain.
So in bringing together this heterogeneous set of features, sustainable materials to screen-sharing aided design (my boosted version of a zoom call) to biophilic design (that just means "bring more nature in") we make a new architecture, the architecture of this day and age, beautiful buildings self-designed with love and real involvement, respectful of nature and humans alike, taking advantage of new technologies not as gadgets but as tools for better living.
It sounds long and twisted, but this hybrid it's what naturally happens when we embrace the twisted times we live in.
So come with me on this journey into the unknown. We don't know what happens next, we for sure have no idea about what we're supposed to do. Perhaps we can make things better anyway.
